Report from our school -
August 2022

Our new Junior Secondary School Classrooms

All our children are in school for 2nd term in our school calendar year 2022. Our second term started on 11thJuly and will end on 16th September 2022. All our Grade 6 children who will be sitting for their national assessment exams at the end of this year are fully prepared. The school calendar has been very short since the outbreak of Covid- 19 but we have done our best as a school to offer our children the best within the limited time. The Corona pandemic situation in our country has gone down. The positivity rate is very minimal and our government is still asking people to continue taking all the necessary precautions.

Positive and Negative developments around the school:

OUR JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

We wish to thank all our Swiss friends (Albert Schweitzer Verein/Association and Nafasi Sawa Kinderstiftung) for their continued financial support which has enabled us to continue helping our children get quality education and also get nutritious food for breakfast and lunch in our school. Out of the monthly running costs from our two Swiss Foundations we have been able to put smiles on the faces of our beloved children which mean a lot to them. We also wish to report that our Junior Secondary School construction is complete. We have completed construction of two new classrooms, we have built 6 door Ecosan toilets, we have bought two water tanks (10000 litres each), we have put tiles on the new classroom floors, we have also connected our new school to mains electricity. Our new school is fully fenced and a gate has been put up for security purposes. We are all very grateful for all this support. We are working on our new school registration with the government in readiness for the year 2023.

HEALTH COUNSELING SESSIONS:

We wish to report that since 2021 when our children returned to school after the Covid 19 outbreak we
got financial support from Nafasi Sawa Kinderstiftung to run health counseling sessions for our children
on life experiences and personal growth on health issues. We wish to report that these sessions have
been very helpful to all our upper primary school children in Grade 4, 5 and 6. We have been able to
hold 4 Health talks run by outside counseling group from Asembo Counseling Centre. We ask Nafasi
Sawa Kinderstiftung to continue sponsoring this program every term for our children since it is very
helpful to our growing children.

Challenges for the school management:

CONSTANT MALARIA SICKNESSES AMONG OUR CHILDREN:

Since our country is lying in tropical Africa where malaria outbreaks are ever on the increase and killing thousands every year, we have had the challenge of treating our sick children every time any falls sick. The disease is very rampant especially during the rainy seasons when there is stagnant water all over where mosquitos breed. Sometimes the sickness makes many of our children miss classes at the same time since they can’t be in class when sick. Our approach has been that we take our sick children for treatment to the nearest health facility which is approximately 4 km away from our school. In order to help prevent the disease we took the initiative of making personal visits to our children’s homes to check if our children are sleeping under treated mosquito nets. We found out that most of our children don’t have mosquito nets in their homes. Those who have mosquito nets are having torn ones which can’t stop mosquitoes from biting them at night when sleeping. It is on this note that we are making a passionate appeal for financial support to buy 324 mosquito nets for all our children. We believe this will help us reduce malaria outbreak among our children.

General News from the country:

Next week Tuesday the 9th August we shall be voting in our new political leaders for the next 5 years. There is a lot of tension and uncertainty among the citizens since it is not easy knowing who will win the Presidency. For the last week the American and British governments have been sending travel advisories to their citizens against visiting some parts of our country for fear of political fights among our people supporting different political aspirants. We are optimistic all will be well after the elections.

OUR CURRENT ACTIVITIES:

We are working hard to ensure education syllabus coverage for all our classes despite the fact that the school calendar was squeezed to enable our education system return to normal school calendar by the year 2023. At the moment all our children are involved in preparation for music festival which our children love so much. Our children are also involved in ball game competitions which are ongoing. Our children love extra curricula activities and we support them fully. Our children are also involved in study tours to different learning sites in our area. These are very helpful in widening their learning scope which is very important to all our children.

VISITORS:

We are expecting our Swiss friends to come visiting immediately after our General Elections on 9th August 2022.

SPECIAL THANKS:

We once again wish to pass our sincere hearty thanks to all our Swiss friends for their continued financial support which has brought us this far. We also wish our Nafasi Sawa Kinderstiftung a successful fundraising ceremony of 14/8/2022. Though far from Switzerland, we shall be with you in our hearts at each and every minute during the ceremony. May God bless y’all.
